I am an experienced European patent attorney, active in private practice for more than 20 years. After having been a key team member of two larger IP firms, I decided that it was time to venture out on my own and start a firm with a new vision on IP. So end of 2021 I contacted Bart, with whom I have been cooperating for many years. And it didn’t take long before Pitch was born!
For many SMEs and startups, I have been a key consultant for building a patent strategy which is in line with their business strategy. My goal is not only to achieve maximal protection for my client’s innovations, but also to ensure freedom to operate to allow these innovations to thrive once they are brought to the market. In my view, a patent portfolio needs to be flexible to be able to react to changes in the market, whether on the client’s side or on the competitor’s side. Furthermore, I always keep an eye on other kinds of IP protection that is available, such as trademarks, designs, copyright, trade secrets, etc, so I can fully advise my clients.
Most of my clients are SMEs and startup companies. I enjoy working for this type of clients because you get to talk to the decision makers as well as the passionate inventors. During my career I have also been involved in developing and prosecuting large patent portfolios for multinationals, universities, and research institutes. My technological background is in electronics, mechanics, computer implemented inventions and telecommunication.
In my spare time, I am an active member of the IP expert group of ie-net, the Flemish Engineers Circle, which is one of the main organizations for IP courses and seminars in Belgium. In this context, I coordinate courses on patent litigation and IP management. And of course, I give some of the lectures myself, which I enjoy very much.
